Jacob's Lake to Page, AZ

10/4 Good buddy. Okay, no more trucker jokes. As usual we rolled out late in the morning but this time we headed for Page, AZ. Page is the gateway to Lake Powell, a jewel in the desert for recreation, water control and management. Page is also in the heart many natural wonders. Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyons, Grand Canyon, Grand Staircase-Escalate National Monument, Vermilion Cliffs NM, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and much more.
Leaving Jacob's Lake we curved through the mountains and the Kaibab Forest. I had to have two hands on the wheel so no pics and Becky is making a project involving stabbing yarn with stick(s). We were up on the Kaibab Plateau and began the descent on the Kaibab Monocline into the House Rock Valley. Lots of fancy words for a beautiful place. There was an overlook partway down that we pulled into. The massive cliffs in the background are the Vermilion Cliffs.

The colors of the cliffs were absolutely stunning. There were large portions that were almost black making all the other colors really pop.
They had some construction on 89A and we got to sit at a light so I got some good pictures while sitting still.

We came to Navajo Bridge over the Colorado River's Marble Canyon. This bridge is near Lee's Ferry. The bridge is 834 feet (254 m) in length, with a maximum height of 467 feet (142 m) from the canyon floor. The bridge on the left is the original built in 1929 and the one on the right is the new one built in 1994. It is amazing how narrow the bridges were back then. Reminded me of the roads built on the old Oversees Railroad beds. They don't look like they are wide enough for two cars.

What looked like one raft far away was actually 6.
89A runs into 89 in Bitter Springs (near that big white dot on the map). Making the turn north looks like you drive straight into the mountain but then the road bends left to run up the side and we quickly gain 2200 feet from 3800 at Bitter Springs to 6026 at the top of the mountain. Then we began the long run down to Page and Lake Powell.

We arrived in Page and made camp at Page Lake Powell RV Park and Becky informed me that I needed to take her out to Sunday dinner. Next stop, Big John's Texas BBQ.
After we finished and the rain stopped we took a little drive up 89. We ended up at the Glen Canyon Dam. Yes, more dam pictures!

We made it to Wal Mart and then returned home to sit out the rain.

10/5 Today there were thunderstorms and rain off and on all day. We stayed in the trailer, Patrick worked on school, I worked on the blog. Three post took me all day! Keep looking because I like to see everyone checking out my hard work. Hi to all my regular readers and to those who stumbled upon the blog, welcome!
