Rutherford B Hayes Presidential Library and Home

July 24 Becky and I drove up to Fremont, Ohio and walked around Spiegel Grove, the home of former President Hayes. We got there a bit late in the day and were able to take the tour of the house. The bottom level is accessible via a lift and there is an old 1930s elevator in the home. I did not fit.
The USS Spiegel Grove was named for the estate and was sunk off the coast of Key Largo, Florida. It is one of my absolute favorite sites to dive.

This side is the main entrance to the library and museum. Notice the ramp set into the stairs.
These gates at each estate entrance were originally gates onto the White House grounds. When the gates at the WH were replaced, Hayes asked for the old gates and Warren Harding gave them to him.
 Hayes' tomb
This tomb behind the President's is of James Webb Cook Hayes, second son of President and Lucy Hayes. He had a stellar military career and earned the Medal of Honor.

The bell from the Spiegel Grove in the library's armory. It is on loan from the US Navy.

A gratuitous shot of the dog.
