Lake Pontchartrain, Mississippi Gulf Coast Scenic Byway

October 29
Our trajectory was going to take us across I-10 to Florida and I knew we needed to drive across the causeway, the longest bridge over water in the world. One of the few bridges that advises you to check you gasoline levels before driving across it.
First the drive over the infamous Louisiana swamps. I could look at the map and see the towns where the Swamp People live. I can hear Troy yelling, "Choot em!" and the announcer saying "meanwhile in Houma."

The I-10, Lake Pontchartrain Causeway interchange.

The first exit off I-10 is the John C Stennis Space Center. There is a rest stop and a visitors center for the NASA facility. Stennis is a 13,500 testing site with a 125,000 acre sound buffer zone. It is the main testing facility for all the Saturn engines and Space Shuttle engines. They also test rockets for the Mars mission.

Various buoys.

Outside the VC is a statue of an eagle with one wing exposed like the inside of an airplane wing. It is officially named Infinity Eagle.
All the parts for the wing were used in the testing equipment and rocket engines.
We had time to kill because our reservations at C.B. Smith Park didn't take effect until November 1. The decision was made to turn down along the coast and get off I-10. What better place to drive then along the Mississippi Gulf Coast Scenic By-way?

Looking at Biloxi

We ended the day at Indian Point RV Park. No photos of the place. It had level concrete pads and asphalt roads. Stone approaches to the pads on the pull throughs.
